This is a guide detailing the step required to add a Ratio Channel to your car configuration in Racepak's DataLinkII.
A Ratio channel will allow you to compare values of two predefined channels. This may be used to determine slippage in the clutch or transmission by looking at the engine to drive shaft ratio, or the transmission ratio. In this guide the example used is to compare the fuel Pump and Nozzle pressures to determine the resistance through the barrel valve. This is useful for detecting throttle position variances during the run.
1. Open the Racepak DataLinkII application.
2. Open the Car Configuration File by selecting "Open Car Configuration" from the File Menu.

3. The Select Configuration dialog box contains two list boxes. The list box on the left list the data recorders that are installed on your PC.
Select your data recorder by number or name from the list on the left.

4. After selecting the data recorder from the left list box, the list box on the right will display all available configuration files for that recorder. Usually there is only one configuration file. If there are multiple configurations or copies, insure you select the appropriate one.
Click the OK button after selecting the appropriate configuration file.
5. With the configuration file open, select "Channel Maintenance" from the "Edit" menu.

This opens the IO Channel Edit window for the selected file.
6. In the list of defined channels, locate the channel you want to insert the new ratio channel above.
Then click the "Easy Insert Channel" button.
 |
In this example, I want to insert the new ratio channel between the "Nozzle PSI" and "BDK PSI" channels.
To accomplish this, I must select the "BDK PSK" channel, the channel I want the new channel to be above, then click the "Easy Insert Channel Button" |
Clicking on the "Easy Insert Channel" button will open the window where you will select the type of channel to be inserted.
7. The "Select Driver Name and Type" window has two list boxes. To insert a new ratio channel, select "Calculation" from the Driver list on the left, then select "Ratio" from the Type list on the right. Then click the OK button. This will open the "Ratio Channel Parameters" window.

8. Define the Ratio channel:
- Type in the desired Name of the new channel.
- Select the two channels used to calculate the ratio value.
- Set the display units.
- Set the Maximum result Value.
 |
For this example we named the channel "Throttle Check".
We want to determine the ratio of the fuel Nozzle pressure to the Pump pressure. Select "Nozzle PSI" in the "Divide Channel" and "Pump PSI" in the "by Channel"
This will divide Nozzle PSI by Pump PSI.
Throttle Check = (Nozzle PSI)/(Pump PSI)
Because this value should always be less than 1, set the Display digits before decimal point value to 1, and set the Maximum result value to 1. |

9. After all parameters have been set, clicking on the OK button will save the new channel parameters, insert it into the channel list and return you to the "IO Channel Edit" window.
10. Click the OK button in this window to return you to the main window of the DataLinkII application.

11. Save your modified configuration file by clicking on "Save" from the "File" menu.

The new ratio channel will be displayed in the channel pane of the main window.
